We have so many roasts, and for a run down on every one you can check out last week’s Seattle Coffee Gear Podcast! Today we’ll talk a little bit about holiday roasts in general and share a few highlights, but all of these roasts truly deserve to be tasted. Let’s jump in!
What’s the Deal with Holiday Roasts?
One question we don’t often stop to think about is what are holiday roasts? Typically, these roasts are seasonal blends. The coffees themselves come from around the world and happen to have availability that lines up with the holiday season. While single origins are still roasted and released during the holidays, producing more approachable blends is a great way for roasters to reach new coffee drinkers who might be celebrating the season with family, and looking for gifts. The roasts themselves typically feature classic notes of chocolate, caramel, baking spices, and citrus. These make for accessible coffee, and they happen to line up with what coffees are available. That doesn’t mean that we never see any more adventurous holiday roasts, but they are usually less challenging than some very flavorful coffees you get in other seasons.
